A number of authors have exercised their skills with the modern computer languages by writing applets which emulate some of the old games.
Three are presented here not so much as playable games, but to stir a little of that nostalgia.
The first of these is the earliest. - - - Remember Ping Pong or Tennis? - - - This version was written by Karsten M. Nielsen.
Variations of this game were available for the home user, even before the advent of the modern personal computer.
It was manufactured as a specialist box which plugged into the TV.
Next is the ubiquitous Space Invaders.
The earliest personal computers were based on the 8 bit microprocessors; the Z80, the 6502, the 6800 et al.
All such micros had some version of Invaders; usually written directly in machine code in order to obtain a reasonable operating speed.
This version is by Sondre Skaug Bjørnebekk and is silent.
Those who remember the originals may well be grateful for that fact.
The last of this trio is Pacman.
Universally popular, this version by Jean-Francois Buisson, seems to have been reproduced in its full glory of sound and colour.
Without speed regulation this version may a little too fast too play properly, although in your case, it may be that the old dexterity remains.
Click on the PacMan screen before pressing 'P' to play.
This program has many component parts. It takes a few trial runs to get the parts downloaded and cached in your computer allowing proper operation.
